PVC S60

PVC S60 is a medium-low molecular weight PVC homopolymer, specifically designed for rigid applications. It is renowned for its low gel content and exceptional early color heat stability. These features, coupled with excellent lot-to-lot uniformity, have established PVC S60, also known as F616K, as an industry standard for rigid PVC formulations.

Product Description

  • Medium-Low Molecular Weight: Enhances processability and reduces the risk of defects in finished products.
  • Low Gels: Minimizes imperfections in the PVC, ensuring smoother and more consistent surfaces in end products.
  • Exceptional Early Color Heat Stability: Provides resistance to color degradation and heat during processing, which is critical for maintaining aesthetic qualities in products.
  • Outstanding Lot to Lot Uniformity: Guarantees consistent performance and reliability across different production batches, crucial for maintaining quality in manufacturing processes.

Applications

PVC S60 is suited for various rigid PVC applications including:

  • Rigid Calendering: Used in the production of thin sheets or films that require uniform thickness and finish.
  • Rigid Foam: Ideal for manufacturing foam products that demand structural rigidity and lightweight properties.
  • Profiles and Bottles: Commonly used in the production of profiles for construction and rigid bottles for packaging applications.

Key Properties and Specifications

  • K-Value: Ranges from 58.3 to 61.1 (ASTM), indicating the polymer’s flow characteristics and degree of polymerization.
  • Inherent Viscosity: 0.739 to 0.79 (B.F.U/ASTM D 1243-79), a measure of the polymer's viscosity in solution which reflects its molecular weight and processing ease.
  • Particle Size Distribution:
    • % Retained on Mesh 40: <1E-06%, indicating very fine particles.
    • % Retained on Mesh 200: >=85%, showing a high proportion of the resin is fine enough for uniform processing and product quality.
  • Porosity: 0.05 to 0.22 ml/mg (DIN 53417/1), affecting how additives and plasticizers absorb and interact with the PVC.
  • Volatile Matter (Heat Loss): <=0.4% (B.F.G), indicating low levels of impurities or moisture which could affect processing and properties.
  • Bulk Density (Apparent): 0.55 to 0.61 g/cc (ASTM D 1898.69), influencing handling, storage, and metering during processing.
  • Dark Resin Content: Less than 30 particles per 10 square inches in 100 grams (B.F.G), measuring the purity and cleanliness of the resin important for high-quality aesthetic products.

Packing and Storage

  • Packaging: Typically handled and shipped in a form that ensures the preservation of its properties and protects against contamination.
  • Storage Recommendations: Should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture to maintain its physical and chemical properties over time.

PVC S60 offers a reliable option for manufacturers looking for a PVC homopolymer that combines low molecular weight with high performance, particularly effective for precise and high-quality rigid PVC products. Its superior properties make it ideal for a wide range of applications, ensuring durability, efficiency, and aesthetic quality.
