HDPE HD-52518

Type: High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

Grade: HD-52518

Features and Characteristics

  • Characteristics: HD-52518 is a copolymer manufactured by the gas phase process, suitable for LLDPE Injection Molding, Extrusion Coating, and Rotomoulding. It offers a good balance between ease of processability, flowability, and mechanical properties, making it particularly effective for applications that demand both ease of molding and durability.
  • Quality: Known for its high fluidity which significantly enhances its processability without compromising the mechanical integrity.

General Information

  • Status: Commercial, Active
  • Applications: This grade is primarily used for housewares and other consumer products where molding efficiency and product durability are key. It also suits applications that benefit from extrusion coating and rotational molding.
  • Manufacturing Process: Produced via the Spherilene Process, known for enhancing the performance properties of the resin.
  • Form: Available in pellet form.

Additives

  • Thermal Antioxidant: Included to enhance the stability and longevity of the polymer during processing and in the final application.

Material Properties

  • Melt Flow Index (MFI) at 190°C: 18 g/10 min (ASTM D1238), indicating the material’s ease of flow which is particularly suitable for complex mold designs.
  • Density: 0.952 g/cc (ASTM D1505), providing the necessary structural strength for a variety of applications.
  • Vicat Softening Point: 122°C (ASTM D1525), the temperature at which the polymer starts to soften under load.
  • Flexural Modulus: 1350 MPa (ASTM D790), reflecting the material's stiffness and resistance to bending.
  • Notched Izod Impact Strength at 23°C: 25 J/m (ASTM D256/A), demonstrating good toughness.

Processing Conditions

  • Recommended Barrel Temperatures: Range between 190°C and 280°C, optimizing the material's properties during the injection molding and extrusion processes.

Storage and Handling

  • Storage: Polyethylene products should not be stored under direct sunlight and/or heat radiation as UV can change the material properties. It is recommended to store the materials in a cool, dry, and dark environment. Under proper storage conditions, the resin's original material and processing properties are expected to be maintained for at least 18 months.
  • Packaging: Supplied in 25kg bags. Alternative packaging options are available for selected grades.

Health and Safety

  • Handling Safety: Molten polymers can cause thermal injuries; therefore, safety glasses and appropriate gloves are recommended. Adequate ventilation is also essential to prevent inhalation issues associated with fumes.

Conclusion

HDPE HD-52518 is engineered for applications requiring a blend of ease of processing and robust mechanical properties. It is ideal for producing housewares and other consumer goods where durability and high-performance are required. This grade's versatility also extends to extrusion coating and rotomoulding, making it a valuable material choice for a wide range of industrial applications.
