HDPE HB0035

Type: High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

Grade: HB0035

Features and Characteristics

  • Characteristics: HB0035 is a high molecular weight, high density polyethylene blow molding grade that combines excellent blow molding extrusion behavior with superior mechanical properties. Known for its high impact strength, good stress cracking resistance, and high stiffness, this grade is highly crystalline and non-polar, providing superb impact resistance at both ambient and cold temperatures.
  • Quality: Contains antioxidants to protect the polymer from degradation during processing and offers excellent chemical resistance.

General Information

  • Status: Commercial, Active
  • Applications: Suitable for a wide range of blow molding applications including bottles for bleach, motor oil, toiletries, milk, and distilled water, as well as small containers ranging from 10 cc to 20 liters.
  • Form: Available in pellet form.
  • Food Contact: Complies with EC Directive 90/128/EEC for use in food contact applications.

Additives

  • Antioxidant: Included to enhance stability and prolong material life during processing.

Material Properties

  • Melt Flow Index (MFI) at 190°C/2.16 kg: 0.35 g/10 min (ASTM D1238), indicating specific melt flow characteristics suitable for blow molding.
  • Density: 0.959 g/cm³ (ASTM D1505), contributing to the material's structural strength and stability.
  • Izod Impact Strength: Minimum 25 Kg.cm/cm (ASTM D256), demonstrating the material's ability to withstand impact.
  • Yellow Index: Maximum -5 (ASTM D1925), ensuring minimal discoloration.
  • Ash Content: Maximum 0.06% (ASTM D1063), indicating purity.
  • Volatile Matter: Maximum 0.05% (ASTM D1960), highlighting low volatile content.
  • Tensile Strength at Break: Minimum 290 gr/cm² (ASTM D638), showcasing robust tensile properties.
  • Elongation at Break: Minimum 900% (ASTM D638), demonstrating exceptional elasticity.
  • Melting Point: 130°C (ASTM D2117).
  • Vicat Softening Point: 126°C (ASTM D1525).
  • Environmental Stress Cracking Resistance (ESCR): 15 hours (ASTM D1693), indicating resistance to cracking under stress.

Processing Conditions

  • Recommended Equipment: Can be processed in most types of blow molding equipment, including HDPE or LDPE extruders. Ideal for producing hollow articles in extrusion blow molding processes.
  • Extruder Specifications: A single screw extruder with a barrel of 25D to 30D long, equipped with a smooth walled grooved feed section and/or decompression, mixing, and shearing sections with 20D to 25D screw length, is recommended to minimize thermal degradation and ensure high plasticizing capacity along with good extrudate quality.

Storage and Handling

  • Storage: Should be stored in dry conditions at temperatures below 60°C and protected from UV light to prevent degradation, odor generation, and color changes.

Health, Safety, and Environment

  • Safety: Not classified as a dangerous product. However, dust and fines may pose a risk for dust explosions, and inhalation of dust can irritate the respiratory system.
  • Ventilation Required: During processing, small amounts of fumes are generated which require proper ventilation.

Recycling

  • Recyclability: End products made from this polymer are recyclable for other applications through modern methods of shredding and cleaning, if approved by relevant standards or specifications. In-house production waste should be kept clean to facilitate direct recycling.
  • Disposal: Dumping and landfilling are possible in agreement with competent authorities.

Conclusion

HDPE HB0035 is engineered for high-performance blow molding applications, offering durability, chemical resistance, and excellent mechanical properties, making it suitable for producing a wide range of containers and bottles, especially in the food and chemical sectors.
