ABS VH0800D

ABS VH0800D is a flame-retardant variant of general-purpose ABS, specially formulated to meet the requirements of electrical and electronics applications. This grade is known for its self-extinguishing properties, making it safer for use in environments where fire safety is a concern. VH0800D maintains an excellent balance of mechanical properties and processability, suitable for products requiring high precision and safety standards.

Key Features

  • Flame Retardant: Equipped with self-extinguishing properties to enhance safety in electrical and electronics applications.
  • High Mechanical Strength: Offers a good balance of toughness and rigidity.
  • Low Mold Shrinkage: Exhibits mold shrinkage of around 0.4% -0.6%, minimizing dimensional variability during cooling.

Applications

  • TV Monitors: Ideal for parts that require both aesthetic appeal and flame retardancy.
  • Wiring Devices: Suitable for components that must adhere to strict safety and durability standards.

Processing Guidelines

  • Drying: Drying prior to processing is crucial. Recommended conditions are 2 hours at 180°-190°F (82° - 88°C) or 4 hours at 160° - 170°F (71°-77°C) in a desiccant dehumidifying hopper dryer to achieve a moisture content of 0.1%. An inlet air dew point of 20°F (-29°C) or below is optimal.

Typical Properties

  • Melt Flow Index (200°C/5kg): 5.8 g/10 min (ASTM D-1238), indicating the flow characteristics of the polymer during processing.
  • Izod Impact Strength (Notched): 15.5 KJ/m² at 23°C (ASTM D-256), demonstrating good impact resistance.
  • Vicat Softening Point: 85°C (ASTM D-1525), the temperature at which the polymer begins to soften under a specified load.
  • Bulk Density: 600 kg/m³, important for handling and storage calculations.
  • Tensile Strength at Yield: 400 kgf/cm² (ASTM D-638), showing the material's strength under tension.
  • Tensile Strength at Break: 320 kgf/cm² (ASTM D-638), indicating how much stress the material can withstand before breaking.
  • Elongation at Yield: 4% (ASTM D-638), measuring the deformation before yielding.
  • Elongation at Break: 30% (ASTM D-638), indicating flexibility.
  • Flexural Strength at Yield: 500 kgf/cm² (ASTM D-790), reflecting the material’s resistance to bending.
  • Flexural Modulus: 26,000 kgf/cm² (ASTM D-790), demonstrating the stiffness of the material.
  • Heat Deflection Temperature (HDT): 72°C at 0.45 MPa (ASTM D-648), showing the temperature at which the material deforms under load.
  • Rockwell Hardness: R 99 (ASTM D-785), measuring the hardness of the material.
  • Flammability Rating: UL94 V0, certifying the material's flame retardant properties.

Conclusion

ABS VH0800D is specifically engineered for applications that demand high safety standards, particularly in the electrical and electronics sectors. Its flame-retardant properties, combined with excellent mechanical and thermal performance, make it a preferred choice for manufacturers seeking reliability and compliance with fire safety regulations.
